Other Eyes
written by Richard Marquis
(to be staged April 4 to April 7, 2012)

Mary has been teaching improvisational techniques for over twenty years. As well as making you laugh hysterically, Improv games exercise your brain to help you think faster, speak with more confidence, and feel energized!  It is also a great primer for people considering dipping their toe into community theatre and acting.

TotoToo Theatre highly reommends Mary’s course if you’ve asked yourself:
Should I audition if
I’ve never acted before?”
This course will boost your confidence in acting and in life.

About Auditioning

WHO MAY AUDITION?

TotoToo Queer Theatre is first and foremost community-oriented. We welcome everyone from the entire community (straight, bi, gay, lesbian - whatever your persuasion) to take part in staging and performing in our productions. Your gay/lesbian theatre group is defined by the subject matter of our productions (plays which might not otherwise be selected for production by the general theatre community because of their themes or content). TotoToo Queer Theatre doesn't define itself by the people who volunteer as production and cast members.  Everyone who loves theatre is very welcome to play in our sandbox. TotoToo Theatre encourages everyone with an interest in acting to audition for upcoming productions. We have a growing reputation for recognizing new talent and launching novice actors into the wider theatre community. We also welcome actors honed in their craft to audition for productions and showcase their own talents and skills.

WHAT WILL I BE ASKED TO DO AT AN AUDITION?

Auditions usually take between 15 and 20 minutes and are a very relaxed and positive affair. You will be introduced to the director, assistant director and a few members of the TotoToo theatre group - usually around 4-5 people. You will usually be asked to perform a brief monologue or a piece of writing of your choosing, no more than 2 or 3 minutes long. You may then be aked to read a section of the play with one of the casting committee members.  Everyone who auditions will be contacted shortly thereafter to let them know whether they have been cast in the production.

WHAT IF I AM NOT CAST FOR A PART?

TotoToo Theatre casts three plays a year. If you're not right for one play you may be better suited for another. We encourage you to KEEP TRYING. And in the meantime get involved with other aspects of the theatre group. You can learn all about set construction, lighting, costume design and other fun aspects of community theatre. It takes more than 20 volunteers behind the scenes to successfully stage a full TotoToo Theatre production - and no role is considered small when it comes to community theatre!
